About the PBSC
The Prayer Book Society of Canada was founded in 1986 by a group of Anglicans, both clergy and lay people, who were concerned at the introduction of new alternative services which were in some parishes entirely displacing the use of the Book of Common Prayer. And although the BCP remains the official standard of worship and doctrine of the Anglican Church of Canada, many of the new services were (and are) at odds with the Prayer Book’s insistence upon the authority of Scripture and orthodox Christian teaching.

The Society upholds the maintenance of the Prayer Book as the official standard of doctrine and worship in the Anglican Church of Canada (while supporting a modest amount of flexibility as may be sensible and locally appropriate). It seeks to foster a rediscovery of the classical Anglican way of worship, devotion and reading of Scripture, as embodied in the Book of Common Prayer.
